Aston Villa Academy: Seb Revan must be given loan move in January after summer disappointment

Aston Villa academy prospect Seb Revan must be given the opportunity to flourish away from Villa Park in January and secure a loan move in the football league.

The 19-year-old was due to leave Villa on loan in the summer transfer window but sustained an injury just before the deadline, which rooted him to the club’s youth sides in the first half of this season.

The left-back has impressed for the Under-21s this campaign and was subsequently given a taster of first-team training under Unai Emery.

The Spaniard handed him some minutes in the Peter Whittingham memorial game against Cardiff during the World Cup break and took him to Dubai to take part in the warm-weather training camp.

Revan is a homegrown player who can play anywhere along the backline or even in midfield, as he proved during his loan spell with Grimsby Town in the first half of the 2021/22 campaign and with National League North side Hereford FC last year.

After making 24 appearances for The Bulls in the second half of last season, Villa were hoping to further his development with a third loan spell in the summer, but despite having an unnamed club lined up, an injury scuppered such plans.

Revan has had plenty of minutes this season, after notching up 14 starts and over 1200 minutes for the Under-21s this term, but playing at academy level and professional standard are two completely different beasts.

According to The Athletic, there remains interested from League One, League Two and the National League this January, and Villa must oblige and let Revan ply his trade away from the West Midlands.

With Lucas Digne and new January signing Alex Moreno firmly planted as the first team’s starting duo at left-back, a move away this month makes plenty of sense.

After spending both of his previous loan spells in the National League or League Two, a step up to League One would be the best way for Villa to further his potential in the coming months.

In other Aston Villa news, this one first-team player could quickly become a fan-favourite after his brilliant performance against Leeds in the Premier League.
