Aston Villa eyeing up January move for Genk forward Paul Onuachu – report

Aston Villa are eyeing up a move for 28-year-old Genk forward Paul Onuachu and will look to bring to forward to the club in January, according to jeunesfooteux.

Both Villa manager Unai Emery and owners NSWE have reportedly been following the forward’s progression for 12 months before the Spaniard was appointed.

The report claims, after being impressed by the Nigeria international, the Villans will launch a bid, however, Genk want a fee in the range of €25m (£21.4m).

“According to our information, Aston Villa, which has been in attacking difficulty since the start of the season, is considering submitting an offer for the 28-year-old Nigerian striker, who has scored 13 goals in 14 games this season,” as quoted by jeunesfooteux

“Under contract until 2024 at KRC Genk, Paul Onuachu is estimated at 15 million euros by the Transfermarkt site, but will not be sold for less than 25M€.”

Decent.

Onuachu has been in decent form since the 2020/2021 season, finding the back of the net on 72 different occasions for Genk.

And at the age of 28, the forward may be ready to take the next step in his blossoming career by securing a switch to the Premier League.

Villa definitely need an out-and-out goalscorer and Onuachu fits the bill for this, despite playing in a European league that is far below the English top flight.

Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings can’t be relied upon to score goals on the regular for the Villans anymore and someone with a better pedigree needs to come in and challenge their place.

The Nigerian could be the perfect player to do so and it seems he’s high on Emery’s list for a potential new forward to rip things up for him.

Whether Villa make a move for Onuachu in January or the summer remains to be seen, but this is a transfer story to keep an eye on for 2023.
