Ollie Watkins urges Aston Villa to sign off with win v Brighton before World Cup break

Ollie Watkins has urged his Aston Villa teammates to sign off with a win against Brighton in the Premier League before the upcoming World Cup break.

It’s been a mixed bag of performances for Watkins so far this campaign and the forward has struggled to find a rich vein of form consistently.

Watkins confessed that the Villans must win against Brighton with there being such a long layoff between now and their next Premier League fixture in December.

“We have a long wait until the next game. The main goal is to go there and win and have a good away day, like we did there last year,” said the forward as quoted by the Express and Star.

“There were positives to take (from the last game), even though we lost.”

Favoured.

Watkins has started both games up top since new Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s arrival, suggesting he’s the Spaniard’s favoured forward.

The Englishman repaid Emery’s faith with a goal against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday 9 November 2022.

Hopefully, the striker can now find some better form moving into the second half of the season, he became useless under Steven Gerrard at times.

Three goals this campaign so far for Watkins simply isn’t good enough from a forward who has started a majority of games, this needs to change quickly.

Emery’s emergence may have caused the spark to do just this, however, it’s unclear if he’ll look for better alternatives once the transfer window reopens in January.

Watkins and the Villans head to the south coast for their final match before Christmas against Brighton and three points will be a nice present to sign off with.
