Former Aston Villa coach Neil Cutler gushes over Unai Emery tactics v Manchester United

Former Aston Villa goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler has been left gushing over Unai Emery’s tactical setup against Manchester United.

The Spaniard masterminded a 3-1 win against the Red Devils in his first game in charge of the club.

Cutler, who was shown the door after Emery’s appointment, praised the former Arsenal manager’s debut at the club.

He said at 5:22 on Ben Foster’s podcast, “The new manager came in. The way they set up was fantastic. Excellent. Emi played higher up, more like a quarterback.”

Tremendous

We all knew Emery was a quality manager that would have some impressive results at Villa, but did not expect it from game one.

The players seemed hungry, the fans were up for it and the hosts did not let United enjoy a decent passage of play all game.

Two early goals really set the tone for the rest of the contest and Emery’s tactical fluidity throughout the game was key in getting the job done for them.

His second test will also be against the same side, albeit in a different competition and his team selection for that one will be interesting.

Despite it being the Carabao Cup, we do not expect too much rotation as he’ll still be figuring out what his best eleven is moving forward.

John McGinn should be the one to come in while Boubacar Kamara also appears to be in good shape after he came off the bench over the weekend.

In other Aston Villa news, Tim Sherwood has made a prediction about whether or not Unai Emery will be a success at Villa Park.
