Aston Villa centre-back Tyrone Mings has strong case for England World Cup selection – journalist
Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law believes Aston Villa centre-back Tyrone Mings has a strong case for World Cup selection with England.
The Villans centre-back has had an up-and-down season so far but has looked rejuvenated since Steven Gerrard got the sack.
Law admitted that there is a “strong case” for Gareth Southgate to select Mings for his World Cup squad despite the few mistakes he’s made this season.
“Having watched him yesterday and given injuries and form of some English defenders, I think Ben White has to go to World Cup,” said Law via Twitter.
“I also think there is still a strong case for Tyrone Mings – has made a couple of big mistakes but so have Dier and others and he’s been generally very good.”

Emery revival.
There’s no doubt being stripped of the Villa capacitance by Gerrard left Mings looking for some confidence.
Nevertheless, he shone in Villa’s 3-1 demolition job of Manchester United on Sunday under new boss Unai Emery. Everyone is on trial when a new manager comes in and this could be the perfect potion for Mings to thrive.
Mings will be given a massive opportunity between now and January to impress Emery, if he does, he bolsters his chances of playing for his country again.
The World Cup may come a bit too soon for Mings, however, but selfishly, this is probably a good thing for Aston Villa.
When Mings is in form he can be a fantastic asset to have in the team, he just lets himself down occasionally with lapses of concentration and poor judgement.
A fresh start under Emery is exactly what the defender needs right now, hopefully, he steps up to the plate.
In other Aston Villa news, Emery’s Arsenal successor Mikel Arteta welcomed him back into the Premier League.
