Gary Lineker reacts to Unai Emery appointment as Aston Villa manager
Gary Lineker has welcomed Unai Emery back to the Premier League with a taunt after he was appointed as the new manager of Aston Villa.
The Spaniard was announced as Steven Gerrard’s replacement on Monday night [24 October], bringing an end to his time with Villarreal where he became the first manager to win a trophy at the club.
But the former Arsenal boss was welcomed back by Match of the Day host Lineker on his personal Twitter account with a jab at his Spanish accent, something he was mocked for constantly during his first spell in England.
“Good luck and good eebbening to Unai Emery, who is the new manager/coach of Aston Villa,” he said.
Emery is known for wishing everyone a good evening before answering questions in an interview or press conference, but was mocked constantly for pronouncing a ‘b’ instead of a ‘v’ when doing so.
Poor
We all know there was no malice intended from Lineker in his tweet to Emery, but all it’s done is encourage a pile on of the new man.
He was brought in to a new country several years ago by Arsenal and tried his best to speak the language quickly and fluently, and obviously that comes with small errors and a strong accent.

Emery was taunted and mocked for it and still is to this day, despite leaving Arsenal and finding great success in his homeland over the last few seasons.
While it was surely just tongue in cheek, Lineker should be more aware of what he was doing and now fans are likely to think it’s okay to mock the new Aston Villa boss because of how he speaks.
The best way for him to do so would be to shut everyone up with great results on the pitch, but Lineker has to think before he tweets in future and hopefully someone will have a word so he doesn’t do it again.
