Michael Beale not keen on return to Aston Villa
Michael Beale has said no to returning to Aston Villa after they sacked Steven Gerrard and are looking for a new head coach.
The QPR boss turned down the chance to join Wolves and by the looks of it, he will turn down Villa as well if they approach him.
Beale worked with Gerrard at Rangers and Villa before moving to Loftus Road to start his own managerial career.
Via Twitter, journalist Alex Crook wrote, “Mick Beale when asked about the possibility of going back to #AVFC as manager on @talkSPORT ‘No chance’. Said his loyalty was with Gerrard and the rest of his sacked former colleagues. Also questioned the way his old club are being run and their recruitment. Strong stuff.”
Makes sense
The QPR manager has only 15 games as a first-team boss so the Villa job may be too big for him this early in his career.
On paper, Gerrard looked like a good appointment but we all know how horrible it turned out for the Birmingham outfit.
There will be too much pressure on Beale and he’s better off learning his trade elsewhere before moving to Villa Park at a later date.
Villa have been targeting managers like Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel and while they’re unattainable, one gets the idea of the profile they’re eyeing.
They do want someone with experience of winning trophies or managing at the highest level and Beale clearly does not fit the mould.
It will be interesting to see who they eventually turn to as it’s important they get this one right or they could waste an extremely talented and expensive squad of players.
