Alan Hutton: World Cup break could come at a good time for Aston Villa
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park
Alan Hutton has suggested the upcoming World Cup break could come at a good time for Aston Villa with the Villans on the verge of the relegation zone.
Villa have five Premier League fixtures before the World Cup break with the club looking for a new manager after Steven Gerrard’s sacking.
Hutton believes there’s a lot of talent in Villa’s squad and the break should be taken as an opportunity for the club to take stock of what has gone wrong so far this season.

“Yeah I think so (it’s a good time to reassess the situation),” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.
“There’s five league games and maybe one cup game before the break so if they can get a couple of positive results within their and maybe be sitting just below mid-table it’s an opportunity to take stock of what’s happened.
“There’s a lot of ability within this squad, it’s just not quite coming together at this moment in time, so maybe just a couple of positive results can flip that on its head.”

Villa face Thomas Frank’s Brentford on Sunday (23 October) with the Dane rumoured to be on Villa’s radar to replace Gerrard (talkSPORT, 20 October).
Former Villa assistant and current QPR boss Michael Beale has ruled himself out of the running to return to the club and has recently questioned how Villa are being run (Alex Crook, 22 October).
In other Aston Villa news, the links to Mauricio Pochettino are ‘pure speculation’ according to reports
