Aston Villa are admirers of Brentford manager Thomas Frank – report

Aston Villa are reportedly admirers of Brentford manager Thomas Frank after they sacked Steven Gerrard on Thursday evening, according to TalkSPORT.

Villa are fourth from bottom after having won just two of their opening 11 games and will now be looking to secure a replacement quickly.

The club released a statement late Thursday night after the crushing 3-0 defeat to Fulham explaining their decision to sack Gerrard.

It read: “Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that Head Coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect.”

Gerrard’s job seemed in doubt regardless of the result on Thursday evening and links were made with Mauricio Pochettino earlier in the week.

Nevertheless, it seems Aston Villa have turned their attention to Brentford boss Frank with Pochettino being a tough nut to crack.

No shock.

It’s no shock that Aston Villa has decided to sack Gerrard, the team simply wasn’t playing for him anymore and the change was desperately needed.

The Villans were putting out dull, stale and boring football in recent weeks something which was wearing fans’ patience thin and leaving them wanting answers.

Thursday evening’s clash against Fulham was a culmination of weeks of speculation against Gerrard’s name, it was over before it had even begun.

Now, Villa must get the right man in for the job, Frank is an extremely interesting proposition but whether he’d leave Brentford is another story together.

There’s little doubt, however, if he did leave that he wouldn’t be able to do a fine job at Villa Park after the job he’s done at the London club.

Mauricio Pochettino seems like a long shot but stranger things have happened in football, Villa will at least make an attempt to convince him by the looks of things.

In other Aston Villa news, the links to Mauricio Pochettino are ‘pure speculation’ according to reports
