View: Aston Villa must bring Marvelous Nakamba back from cold amid poor form

Aston Villa find themselves perilously close to the relegation zone in the Premier League with just goal difference keeping them above Wolves.

Steven Gerrard has had plenty of struggles to try and sort out throughout the 10 games so far this season but one of his biggest has been an unsettled and unbalanced midfield.

Boubacar Kamara had come in to be the answer to the holding midfield role but his long-term injury has thrown all of the manager’s plans out the window and left him back at square one.

Douglas Luiz and Leander Dendoncker can both do that role and have done at times this season already but neither has been remotely to the level of Kamara.

Luiz is probably better suited to being one of the midfield players in front of the anchor and considering how happy Wolves fans were for Dendoncker to leave Molineux in the summer, perhaps he should not have been signed in the first place.

That would leave Aston Villa without many options as a six but one player who has been completely frozen out by Gerrard could be the answer in the form of Zimbabwean international Marvelous Nakamba.

Exactly why he has not played a single minute this season is something only Gerrard will have an idea about but when the team is crying out for a midfielder to run all day, tackle for fun and then be simple with the ball, why is he not in the conversation?

He hasn’t really had a fair crack at the whip since arriving at Villa Park and while he isn’t likely to be the permanent solution to the problem, he could at least put a plaster over the bleed until it has a chance to heal.

In other Aston Villa news, Gerrard’s position at Villa Park is under threat but reports linking this manager to the job are wide of the mark at the moment.
