Fabrizio Romano: Aston Villa were trying for new Douglas Luiz contract since deadline day drama
Aston Villa finally confirmed a new long-term deal for Douglas Luiz at the club on Friday, October 14th after months of drama following him around.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Villans had been trying with the Brazilian for a new contract since the deadline day after everything that had happened.
Arsenal were said to have made numerous bids to try and poach the South American to the Emirates, but Steven Gerrard put down his foot to prevent that.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Romano shared the process and the months of work behind Luiz putting pen to paper on his new deal at Villa Park.
“More on Douglas Luiz,” he wrote. “Understand new deal with Aston Villa will be valid until June 2026, four-year contract.
“Negotiations started right after the end of the market as Arsenal had three bids rejected for Douglas on Deadline Day.”
Finally.
Everyone has been biting their nails regarding this drama, but it has finally concluded.
Luiz looked certain to be leaving with his last contract running out at the end of this season, but that has all changed with this new deal that has come out of nowhere.
Gerrard will be delighted, and it should also give him confidence at a time when he won’t have much with many calling for his head as poor football continues.
The board will support the boss though given this latest move, with more money likely on the table to keep the midfielder at Villa Park, something he will have been asked about.
Luiz sticking around till 2026 also protects his value, so if he was to still leave in upcoming transfer windows means a lot more money will be dragged in compared to if he left in January or over the summer.
What a great move by the club.
