Douglas Luiz ‘so happy’ at Aston Villa after summer transfer saga
Douglas Luiz has claimed he’s “so happy” at Aston Villa despite rumours linking him with a move away from Villa Park over the summer.
Luiz was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer [The Guardian], but the 24-year-old stayed put at Villa.
The Brazilian midfielder has been a central part of Steven Gerrard’s plans at Villa Park, and he spoke passionately about wanting to keep hold of him over the transfer window.

Gerrard will be buoyed by Luiz’s latest comments, with the midfielder claiming he’s “so happy” at Villa Park at the moment.
Speaking to Villa TV ahead of the Chelsea match this weekend, Luiz said: “We’re training so hard, we need the one good plan.
“We have such good players in the dressing room, I believe so much in Aston Villa.
“It’s because I’m here, I’m so happy and I think we can win.”
Promising
Despite Luiz’s comments, every Aston Villa fan is aware that the club will have a tough task on their hands to keep him over January and next summer.
Luiz was immediately shuffled into the Villa first team following his switch from Manchester City in 2019, and he’s stayed there ever since.

His defensive awareness combined with his technical ability makes him a huge asset in midfield, and he’ll be incredibly difficult to replace should he decide on leaving the club.
But his latest comments at least offer some hope of him staying. However, Luiz’s contract is set to expire in 2023, so the club will need to offer him a worthy deal and tie him down or risk losing him for free.
That’ll be Villa’s main concern – the club cannot afford to lose him for no fee. If he’s already made clear his desire to leave, then expect him to head for the exit in January.
