Gabriel Agbonlahor admits he does not want to watch Aston Villa play
Gabriel Agbonlahor admits that he does not watch Aston Villa playing anymore due to the tactics Steven Gerrard is deploying.
He has gone on record to say that he does not want to go to Villa Park and watch his former side play as it’s not entertaining for him.
They play a boring and predictable brand of football, in his admission, which relies on Matty Cash getting the ball into the final third and crossing it into the box.
He told talkSPORT, “I don’t want to go and watch Aston Villa play. I don’t want to go to Villa Park and watch them play because it’s not entertaining.
“The tactics Steven Gerrard’s trying to use, get the ball to Matty Cash, play crosses in. But the strikers that we’ve got are not ones that are going to get in front of defenders and get headers in.
“It’s very predictable. Boring to watch.”
Spot on
Gerrard cannot keep doing what he is at Aston Villa and use the same tactics he did when he was in charge of Rangers.
There they were one of the best teams in the league and were expected to win every game they played.
At Aston Villa, things are a lot different and they really need to work harder and have a solid plan if they are to win games.
Putting aimless crosses into the box and hoping someone will get their heads to it is not how a successful team plays.
They’ve got to work on these systems in training and Gerrard has to be ruthless with the players that are not performing.
We will be really surprised if Ollie Watkins starts against Chelsea as he has been off it for a number of weeks.
This could be the ideal time for the Villa boss to unleash Cameron Archer right from the start and see how he does for the first half.
