Alan Hutton: Rangers winger Ryan Kent could get lost at Aston Villa as he’s linked with transfer
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton has suggested that Ryan Kent could get “lost” should he move to Aston Villa as his Rangers contract comes to a close.
Kent has long been linked with a move to Villa Park, with The Sunday Mirror (2 October, page 71) suggesting that the door is open for Steven Gerrard to make a cut-price move for the 25-year-old.
However, Hutton believes the former Liverpool winger is not what Gerrard and Villa need at this moment in time.

“I don’t think it’s what Aston Villa really need at this moment in time,” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.
“I think when you look at the options that they have, Steven Gerrard has enough problems trying to get them fit and firing.
“To add another body to that I don’t think that’s what he needs. I can’t really see that happening in terms of Ryan Kent.
“He really just needs to try and focus and get to his best at Rangers at this moment in time. I think he’s only scored one goal this season so numbers wise he has to do better.
“Gerrard will know what he is capable of, he’s worked with him before very closely so he will know what he can give. I think to go to Aston Villa at this moment in time he could maybe get a little bit lost.”

Kent’s current deal ends in the summer of 2023 and at the moment it looks unlikely that he will extend his stay at Ibrox.
However, with one goal so far in the 2022/23 season, he certainly doesn’t look like the remedy to Villa’s lack of attacking edge. If he does become a free agent, it will be interesting to see if Gerrard does look to reunite himself with the Rangers man.
