Steve Cooper set to be in charge of Nottingham Forest for Aston Villa clash – report

Steve Cooper will reportedly be in charge of Nottingham Forest for the Aston Villa clash on Monday in the Premier League.

According to John Percy of the Telegraph, despite speculation over his future at the City Ground, the hierarchy will not be sacking him before the game against Villa.

Forest are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table after their 4-0 defeat to Leicester City over the weekend.

Via Twitter, Percy wrote, “Steve Cooper set to stay as #nffc head coach, following boardroom talks on Wednesday. Cooper expected to take charge for the Villa game on Monday night. Forest also to appoint Filippo Giraldi (ex-Watford) as new sporting director.”

Good for Villa

Clubs often get a bounce under their new managers and that could’ve happened had there been someone else in charge.

This Forest side is underperforming and is too good to be in 20th place on the table.

It seems clear that Cooper’s methods are not working in the Premier League and Villa have the chance to add to his misery this weekend.

Steven Gerrard is also facing questions over his future so a win against Forest will go a long way to ensure that he’ll stay in the job for the coming weeks.

Villa desperately need to go on a run of at least three or four wins as they do have the players in the squad to do exactly that.

It’s also time for the likes of Ollie Watkins and Philippe Coutinho to step up as they’ve been underwhelming of late and need to add to the goals tally as Villa are struggling to find the back of the net.
