Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard provides Douglas Luiz update amidst transfer rumours
Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has had his say on the ongoing speculation linking midfielder Douglas Luiz away from the club.
The Brazilian is now in the final year of his Aston Villa contract and the club may look to offload the midfielder in January, rather than losing him for free in the summer.
Gerrard admitted that he isn’t surprised by the speculation surrounding Luiz and confessed that the player is a “fantastic talent”.

Speaking via Mirror Sport, Gerrard reiterated that the club wants Luiz to stay with them but that decision ultimately comes down to the Brazilian.
“Am I surprised by the speculation? No, because we have got a young Brazilian player who is a fantastic talent,” he said.
“I expect to be asked this question a lot as the season progresses. We want him to stay here. I think the owners were very strong in keeping him here. We didn’t want to lose him on the final day and he’s performed very well since.”
Cash in.
Aston Villa should cash in on Luiz whilst they can, especially considering there are clubs circling for his signature once the transfer window reopens.
Luiz is a great talent, there’s no denying that, but Gerrard has rarely used him this campaign and he isn’t exactly a vital player for Villa moving forward.
The club should reinvest the money received from Luiz to sign a younger, brighter talent, a player who can shake things up in the midfield for the Villans.
118 appearances for the club is a solid showing from the Brazilian but it seems a move away from the club is the best option for all parties involved now.
With little to no signs of Villa extending his terms, it looks like they have given up hope of doing so, meaning the best option is the get what they can for the midfielder.
Fingers crossed Villa get rid in January, otherwise, it’s an opportunity for some easy cash flow to go missing.
