View: Aston Villa must tackle an attempt from Juventus to sign Douglas Luiz

Aston Villa must tackle an attempt from Juventus to sign Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz as they follow his situation, according to Calciomercato.

The midfielder has been subject to attention from a host of teams in Europe’s top five leagues, and now Juventus are considering a move.

Luiz’s current deal with Villa is set to expire this summer, leaving the club with a tough ultimatum; sell the player for what they can in January or lose him for free in 2023.

Luiz has made 117 appearances for the Villans since joining their ranks in 2019 from Manchester City; scoring seven times along the way.

Juventus will face stiff competition from Arsenal for his signature, the London club made attempt to sign Luiz in the final days of the summer transfer window and will reportedly try again in January.

Fresh terms on a new contract between Luiz and Villa seem to be stagnating, so a switch away from Villa Park now seems the best option for all involved.

Sell.

Juventus are fully aware that getting Luiz on free in summer is a “great opportunity”; Villa must sell the Brazilian in January and be done with this saga.

It’s clear from the midfielder’s lack of game time this season that he isn’t in Steven Gerrard’s plans, so Villa should cash in whilst they can and reinvest the money in better talent.

That’s not to say that Luiz couldn’t be a useful weapon for Villa, it’s just obvious now that the player wants to leave the club and there’s no point in drawing this out until summer.

With Arsenal and Juventus interested, Aston Villa has the chance to pit both teams against each other; hopefully getting a decent fee for the Brazilian in the process.

The worst-case scenario is losing Luiz for nothing; this will be a massive transfer blunder considering the money Arsenal were bidding on deadline day.

Villa must avoid this at all costs.
