Aston Villa want to sign Trevoh Chalobah in January – report
Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is a January transfer window target for Aston Villa, according to a report by Simon Phillips.
Villa were keen to strengthen their defence in the summer and signed Diego Carlos from Sevilla in a deal worth around £27m, as well as Jan Bednarek on deadline day.
But the Brazilian suffered a ruptured achilles in just his second Premier League game and was ruled out for the season, leaving the club short on options and now Chalobah has emerged as a target according to the reliable Phillips on his Substack page [25 September].

“To add to my report from last week, I am told that Aston Villa are one of the many clubs interested in signing Chalobah on loan this January, with interest personally driven by Steven Gerrard who really appreciates the player,” he wrote.
“Gerrard was keen in the summer as well and held talks then, but in the end both Chelsea and Chalobah made the decision to stay at the club.”

Chalobah broke into the Chelsea first-team last season under Thomas Tuchel and looked an excellent prospect as part of the back-three, with an ability to play in midfield too.
He is 23-years-old and ready for regular first-team football at this stage of his career, and has shown a willingness to leave Stamford Bridge to get it if necessary.
That’s a great boost for Gerrard and Villa, who are likely to face stiff competition for his signature from the likes of AC Milan, Inter and AS Roma with Jose Mourinho pushing too.
His pace, ability on the ball and size makes him a threat in both boxes at set-pieces, while Gerrard would likely be able to implement his front-footed style and not worry too much.
A loan or a permanent deal are said to be on the table and it will be an interesting one to watch in the coming months should his exit become more likely.
