John McGinn mocked by Yeovil Town after Aston Villa star’s hilarious remark in interview
John McGinn joked that only his physique keeps him from playing for Yeovil Town, so the National League side fired back at the Aston Villa skipper.
In a completely unexpected turn of events, McGinn’s interview about his rear-end – yes, you read that correctly – has resulted in the Aston Villa captain being mocked by Yeovil Town.
Let us explain. The Scotland midfielder scored for his country against Ukraine on Wednesday night after shrugging off a defender, and he then hilariously claimed in a BBC Scotland interview that he’d be playing for Yeovil Town without that specific physical ‘asset’.
“I always say if I didn’t have my backside I’d be at Yeovil. No disrespect to Yeovil. I try to use my strengths,” joked McGinn.
Shortly after, Yeovil Town replied on Twitter by taking a dig at Scotland’s chances in this year’s World Cup.
“Fancy a trip to Huish Park in late November or December, John? Don’t think you’ll be too busy…” read the post.
Great asset
If you’ve got it then use it, John.
McGinn’s unique ability to shrug off defenders with his legs and backside is an all too familiar sight for Villa fans. It was good to see him getting back to the basics for Scotland this week and rediscovering his shooting boots. Hopefully McGinn is now able to bring that form back with him to Villa Park.

The newly-crowned Aston Villa captain may only stand at 5″8ft, but he certainly knows how to use his low centre of gravity and physique to defend the ball against the opposition. His interview suggests he’s always used it as part of his game – although I doubt he ever thought it would wind up with him being mocked by a National League side.
Yeovil’s response, to be fair, was magnificent. And probably true. McGinn was even spotted in the replies laughing and applauding their witty comeback.
