Aston Villa sweating on fitness of Boubacar Kamara after knee injury scare – report

Steven Gerrard has admitted that Aston Villa are worried about the knee injury Boubacar Kamara suffered against Southampton on Friday night.

The France international was forced off just before half-time with a complaint, after the summer signing arrived on a free transfer from Olympique Marseille.

But after sending the player for a scan to find out the extent of the problem, Gerrard admitted to the Express & Star [19 September] that he was worried about how bad it was.

“I’m worried about it,” he said. “It seems every time we get a win it comes at a cost. I am worried.”

Kamara has started all seven Premier League games so far this season as the holding midfielder, missing just 15 minutes of action before his injury.

Oh no

The win over Southampton on Friday night was absolutely huge and the team desperately needed a positive result to get themselves out of the hole they had found themselves in at that point.

But after already losing summer signing Diego Carlos for the season after his £27m move from Sevilla to a ruptured achilles, losing Kamara for any lengthy period of time too would be a killer blow.

Gerrard worked so hard to be able to bolster his squad this summer but those two players in particular were brought in to strengthen the starting lineup and now he could be without them.

That would be a huge blow for a team that have struggled to get any sort of momentum together this season and managed just two wins from their opening seven league games.

With two weeks now before their next game, there is every hope that the diagnosis will be nowhere near as bad as feared and that he will be able to line up for Gerrard against Leeds next month or very soon after that.
