John McGinn admits to Aston Villa v Southampton being boring

John McGinn has admitted he would’ve turned off the television had he been watching and not playing Aston Villa v Southampton on Friday.

The game was a drab affair that ended up 1-0 to the Villans but only had four shots on goal throughout the game.

It gave Villa the three points, but it wasn’t the convincing victory many of their fans would’ve hoped for before kick-off.

Aston Villa

McGinn told Sky Sports, via the Daily Echo, “If I was watching on the telly I’d have turned it off, but we did well to manage the performance.

“It’s huge. We’ve been criticised this season for not grafting and not fighting, giving away cheap points. Tonight, we fought for every ball and it wasn’t pretty but it was a huge three points.”

Improvement needed

Aston Villa may have won the game and that would have given them the three points to go up the table.

However, things need to quickly change for Steven Gerrard’s men in terms of the style of football and the quality each time they step onto the field.

The style of play is not sustainable in the long run. If we are to become a real force and finish in the top 10 this season.

Thus far every single performance from them has been akin to a mid-table side and given the investment this summer Gerrard and surely, the owners will not be happy with it.

While his job is not on the firing line as Villa has some way away from the relegation zone, things can change quickly in the Premier League and Gerard certain needs to get his act together quickly before things take a turn for the worse.

In other Aston Villa news, manager Steven Gerrard is very keen to bring Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to the club.
