Watford have buy option to make Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis’ loan permanent – The Athletic

Aston Villa have included an option to sell Keinan Davis to Watford on a permanent deal if his loan spell is successful, according to The Athletic.

Davis signed for Watford on a season-long loan deal during the summer transfer window, but has so far failed to make an impact with just 85 minutes being played over three substitute appearances.

But at the time of the deal being done the two clubs agreed to include a buy-option in case the Hornets wanted to sign him permanently, with a fee of between £10-15m agreed.

Aston Villa

“Watford signed Davis on loan from Aston Villa for the season and they hold an option (of about £10-15million) to buy him in the summer,” The Athletic write on 16 September.

Davis isn’t expected to be part of Steven Gerrard’s plans going forward regardless of if he joins Watford permanently or not with Danny Ings, Ollie Watkins and Cameron Archer ahead of him in the pecking order.

Amazing

It’s not very often that Aston Villa sell fringe players well, but if they somehow manage to get £15m for Davis from Watford then they have absolutely won the transfer window.

Davis has struggled to make it in the Premier League with just one top flight goal throughout his career, but he did show he has got good talent for the Championship by helping Nottingham Forest earn promotion last season.

But Davis is in no way a better option than Ings, Watkins or Archer right now and the reality is that if one of those were to leave then the club would get into the transfer market for a replacement instead of using Davis.

So knowing that is the case, the fact they’ve been able to negotiate such a good fee for someone who has no future at the club is great business, with the only caveat being that it isn’t an obligation.
