Ty Bracey exclusive: Aston Villa need change but if Steven Gerrard can bring it he stays
We’re delighted to welcome Villa View host Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Aston Villa are in need of change this season but Steven Gerrard doesn’t have to go if he can be the man the implement it, says Ty Bracey.
A miserable start to the season has put the pressure squarely on the former Rangers boss, with results in no way matching the preseason expectations, but a much-improved performance against Manchester City last time out has given them something to build from.
Bracey wants to take it one game at a time in terms of putting together a run and is happy to see the manager stay at Villa Park if he can show he is able to bring about the improvements required to get better results.

“I try to just look at each game as it comes,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“I don’t want to root for the manager to do bad because I feel like we need change [but] if the manager does well and can turn things around then I’m all for it.
“At the end I want to see Aston Villa do well whoever’s reign that be under.
“So if we can turn it around and get a good run of results, and be playing a consistently good level of football under Steven Gerrard there’s no reason why he can’t stay.”

Following the postponement of last week’s fixtures in the wake of the Queen’s death Gerrard wasn’t able to get his side straight back out with the momentum gained from the draw with Pep Guardiola’s side.
But with Southampton visiting in the Friday night game (16 September) he has the earliest of this weekend’s round of games to do so.
The Saints are beatable opposition but also a dangerous side if taken lightly, so something in line with the City performance will be necessary to get a win in the sort of game where three points are going to be necessary going forward if Villa are to get anywhere near where they want to be.
In other Aston Villa news, the manager feels John McGinn is trying too hard to impress since being made captain.
