Aston Villa loanee Keinan Davis ‘frustrated’ on loan at Watford – Rob Edwards

Keinan Davis has suffered a struggling start to his Watford loan spell, leaving the 24-year-old Aston Villa loanee frustrated at his enforced lack of game time.

After falling out of favour at Villa Park, Davis joined Watford on a season-long loan in the summer transfer window.

Davis spent the second half of last season on loan to Nottingham Forest, where he scored five goals in 15 appearances. But it hardly helped the 24-year-old break into Steven Gerrard’s plans, and he departed for Vicarage Road.

However, Davis’ loan spell with the Hornets has started terribly, with the striker managing just three appearances this season after falling ill – much to the frustration of himself and his manager Rob Edwards.

Speaking ahead of Watford’s clash with Stoke this weekend, Edwards said was quoted by the Watford Observer as saying: “Whereas we’d normally have him at the training ground working on those fitness aspects and also doing some other general football training, we’ve not been able to do anything.

“The key thing is that we let him get over the illness and then set to work on his fitness. It really is a question of being patient. I’m frustrated, Keinan is frustrated but nobody can help being ill.”

Getting back on track

Davis’ absence is of course no fault of his own – after all he can’t help falling ill. But paired with the worrying fitness problems at the start of the season, his campaign has gotten off to a rotten start.

With Aston Villa enduring a rough start in the Premier League, now would have been the perfect time for Davis to catch Gerrard’s eye and prove his worth. But his lack of game time has only further pushed him down the pecking order at Villa Park.

The Hornets have also struggled to piece together a string of positive results in the Championship this season, and currently sit seventh in the table after just three wins in nine games.

With that said, Davis shouldn’t struggle too much to nail down a starting spot under Edwards. However, he’ll be under immense pressure to perform, otherwise he could quickly see his chances of playing in the Premier League dwindle.
