Alan Hutton delighted with Aston Villa summer transfer business as a whole
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton is delighted with Steven Gerrard’s new signings and feels that Aston Villa did well to get most of their business completed early on in the window.
The Villans polished off their summer business with the deadline day arrivals of Southampton defender Jan Bednarek and Wolves midfielder Leander Dendoncker.
Despite the injury to Diego Carlos, Hutton is happy with the club’s summer dealings and feels Gerrard has added more quality to his group.

“I am happy considering there were a few areas that they needed to address with cover needed at left-back for example,” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.
“They’ve done a lot of their transfer work early on which has allowed for the new players to settle into the group whilst also adding quality to their ranks.
“I think overall they’ve done really well and we know it hasn’t been a great start to the season, I think everybody knows that.
“The expectation there is massive and they want to be as high up the league as they possibly can.
“If they can get back to winning ways I think the Manchester City game showed that they’re able to compete against the best teams.
“When they get on a run they should be fine, I can see them climbing up the table.”

Dendoncker could make his debut on Friday (16 September) against Southampton at Villa Park in what is an important game for Villa to build on their point against Manchester City.
Bednarek will have to wait to get his Villa career underway as he won’t be able to feature against his parent club due to the loan agreement which secured his move to the club.
A win will take Gerrard’s side up to 13th place and three points clear of West Ham in 18th place.
