Alan Hutton: Jan Bednarek was a signing that Aston Villa had to make
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton believes that Jan Bednarek was a signing that the club had to make after Deigo Carlos’ injury and feels he is a good addition for Aston Villa.
The Villans confirmed the deadline day addition of the 26-year-old defender from Southampton as Steven Gerrard added some much-needed cover to his defence.
Hutton feels it was an addition that the club had to make and says his Premier League experience will be of benefit to Gerrard and Villa.

“He was right into the squad at the weekend and it was an area that they had to strengthen in the latter stages of the window,” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.
“I thought Tyrone Mings was excellent against Haaland and I thought for the majority of the game he policed him really well.
“You’re going to get the best out of these guys knowing that there are other guys coming through the door trying to take their spot.
“It’s not been an ideal situation with Diego Carlos getting injured so it was one of those situations where he had to get somebody in.
“Bednarek is physical and strong and he knows what the Premier League is about so he will obviously add quality to the defensive line.”

Bednarek is yet to make his Aston Villa debut but was on the bench for their hard-fought point against Premier League champions Manchester City.
The 26-year-old won’t be able to feature in Villa’s next game on Friday 16 September against his parent club Southampton.
With the international break coming up, Bednarek won’t be seen in a Villa game until at least their trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United on 2 October.
