Ty Bracey: Aston Villa must keep momentum going v Southampton despite postponement
We’re delighted to welcome Villa View host Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Aston Villa have to be looking at three points from their game with Southampton to maintain momentum despite the postponements this week says Ty Bracey.
After a miserable run a much-improved performance saw the Villans take a point from high-flying Manchester City last week (3 September) with a 1-1 draw that could have easily been a 2-1 win were it not for some over-zealous officiating.
The death of the Queen has seen the whole slate of games throughout the country suspended this weekend, meaning the opportunity to build on the result against struggling Leicester has gone, but Bracey is confident that if this side can replicate the performance against Pep Guardiola’s men they will be fine when they do next take the field.

He spoke exclusively to Villa News and said: “Yeah I don’t think it was great but it was one of those things where every team was affected by it.
“But let’s hope that the players are still in high hopes and ready to prove a point, and ready to go again.
“Because if we play like we did against Man City we have nothing to worry about.
“So we should definitely be going into this game with Southampton with three points in mind, so let’s just hope we can keep that momentum going.”

Steven Gerrard will have been looking forward to facing his former boss Brendan Rodgers at just the right time, looking to put a run together against the team rooted to the bottom of the table.
But the historic events outside football could not have been planned for by Villa and it is a situation that has to be adapted to as best as possible.
Southampton on 16 September will no doubt be a trickier fixture, but they are a side firmly in the group that the Lions have to be looking to beat this season if they want to achieve their goals, and based on last time out they appear to have rediscovered how to do that.
In other Aston Villa news, the Villans are now one of the 20 most valuable football clubs in the world according to Forbes.
