Steven Gerrard issues injury update on Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos
Steven Gerrard remains hopeful that defender Diego Carlos will play a “large chunk” of the season for Aston Villa.
He has also revealed that the Brazilian has undergone his surgery in London and it has been a successful procedure.
The £26million summer signing looked to have started the campaign well before his injury kept him out of action for the long term.

Via the Birmingham Mail, Gerrard said, “Diego’s had surgery in London which we’ve been told the surgeon is extremely happy with and it’s a success.
“Now, it’s very important that rehabilitation goes as smoothly as it can.
“Then we’ll give him every bit of support both on and off the pitch. He’s moved on, he’s processed it. He’s in a positive place and I think that shows the mental strength and the character we’re dealing with.
“I have no doubt that he’ll come back better and stronger. For myself and the rest of the club, it’s obviously a huge setback and a blow.”
Hope he’s back soon
Carlos was one of the most important signings for Villa this summer.
After watching his side concede needless goals due to defensive errors last season, Gerrard wanted a big-name centre-back arrival.
He got his wishes fulfilled in the form of the Brazilian, but did not expect him to suddenly pick up such a heavy injury.
It’s good to see the first steps of his return going well and the surgery looks to have gone successfully.
Now he will begin his rehab which would be working with the physio and eventually move to the light gym and individual pitch work.
Hopefully, within a month or two, he’s spotted with the group as that will be the clearest indicator that he’s nearing his first-team return.
In other Aston Villa news, manager Steven Gerrard is very keen to bring Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to the club.
