Douglas Luiz wants to leave Aston Villa on a free, looking for Premier League club – report
Douglas Luiz has no intention of renewing his contract with Aston Villa and wants to join another Premier League club, according to Bruno Andrade.
The Brazilian midfielder has entered the final year of his contract at Villa Park, and it was initially believed that he was close to agreeing a new three-year deal with the club earlier this summer.
But after seeing Arsenal bid three times for him on deadline day unsuccessfully, UOL [6 September] are now reporting that the player has made the decision to leave with a Premier League side his preference.
“The idea of the former Vasco da Gama is to seek a new destiny within the Premier League itself,” he wrote.
“He is happy and adapted to English football, where he arrived in 2017 to reinforce Manchester City – for bureaucratic reasons, he ended up being loaned soon after to Girona.”

Luiz is a top quality player and the decision the club made to keep him around despite those late bids from Arsenal was completely justified.
He put in a great performance against Man City in the next game too as the club earned a well deserved draw against Manchester City, and may possibly have earned his place back in the side under Steven Gerrard.
But if the player now has no intention of re-signing with the club then hopefully the scouting department and management staff are aware and can start planning for life without him either in January or from next summer.
It will be a huge shame to lose a player of his ability on a free transfer, but it’s clearly a decision that the club have accepted after rejecting those bids from Arsenal.
So long as the player doesn’t down tools between now and leaving then it will surely prove to be a great decision for Aston Villa and fans can wave him goodbye at the end of it all.
