Alan Hutton: Steven Gerrard right man for Aston Villa job
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton believes that Steven Gerrard will be able to handle to pressure that is mounting at Aston Villa after a poor start to the Premier League season.
The Villa boss saw the pressure ease slightly after a battling 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Saturday evening at Villa Park.
However, with just four points from six games, Gerrard’s men sit one place outside the relegation zone after four matches without a win.

Despite the poor start, Hutton believes that he is the right man to lead the club forward.
“That goes with the territory when you’re a big club and you’re the manager then questions are going to be asked,” Hutton told Villa News.
“Obviously one win is far from ideal for Gerrard at the moment, but I thought they were really unlucky against West Ham with the goal that got disallowed.
“If the results continue to be poor the pressure will really start to pile on.
“However, Gerrard is the type of guy who can deal with it and he is working in the right way.
“It’s going to take time.
“This is a team that has come up from the Championship and has finished in the bottom half of the table.
“I do believe he is the right man for the job, it’s just going to take a bit of time.”
The point against Manchester City was certainly unexpected for Gerrard and Villa and the Villans now face a huge match against bottom of the league Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
Brenden Rodgers’ side have a solitary point from their opening six Premier League matches and have lost five games on the spin.
A win for Villa will take them six points clear of Leicester at the foot of the table.
