Gabby Agbonlahor defends under-fire Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard
Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has defended under-fire manager Steven Gerrard, claiming it is “too early” to call for his sacking.
The Villa boss, whose side has won just one of their four opening games this year, has come under heavy scrutiny with his side’s poor start to the season.
However, Agbonlahor has come to his defence on TalkSport saying that Villa fans should be patient with the former Liverpool midfielder. [TalkSport]
He said: “It is four games in and we are two points Liverpool and three points behind Man United.
“So I think it is still too early to say Gerrard out!”
Too early?
It may be tough to hear for Villa fans with the current state of the club, but Agbonlahor is right when he says it is too early to be calling for Gerrard’s head.
The results and performances have been far from good enough and the Villa faithful have every right to be worried about the future of their club.
However, we are still in the opening weeks of the season and there is still loads of football still to be played. The team were rocked by the long-term injury of new signing Diego Carlos.

An injury like that can through all your plans out of the window and the club will still need to give time for Boubacar Kamara to also bed into the side.
Only four games have been played and Arsenal showed last season that you can bounce back from a terrible start to a campaign and still end it with success.
With it being so early in the season, Gerrard should still have time to turn the fortunes of the club around and win back the trust and faith of the Villa faithful.
In other Aston Villa news, Paul Merson believes the club have cup finals awaiting them.
