Alan Hutton ‘really likes’ Cameron Archer but Aston Villa chance comes too soon
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer made an impact against Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup but he is yet to impact the Premier League.
The 20-year-old is stuck behind Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins in the Villans pecking order which has severely limited the chances he has had to play in the top flight.
His record of seven goals in 20 games for Preston North End last season proves that he has the talent if he can be given the opportunity to express himself but a loan may have to come again this summer.

Former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton is excited by the talent Archer has to offer but equally admits that Ings and Watkins are not going anywhere in a hurry so a loan may have to happen.
When asked if a loan move would be the right thing for Archer by Villa News, Hutton said: “I think it is, if I’m totally honest. I actually really like him as a player.
“I like the profile of him and what he gives to the team. He came on against Bolton and he looked sharp, energetic and up for the fight.

“But I just think that over the course of the season and what Villa are trying to achieve, it might be a little bit too soon for him.
“He’s quite far down the pecking order at the moment so for him to go away and develop further, whether that be at a top Championship club, it will be ideal for him going forward.”
Villa will look to right the wrongs of their 1-0 defeat at home to West Ham on Wednesday they head to unbeaten league leaders Arsenal.
In other Aston Villa news, Hutton thinks this Championship player would have been a terrific signing for his former club but a deal has collapsed.
