Chris Sutton reacts to Aston Villa defeat v West Ham United

Chris Sutton has shared his concern on Twitter after Aston Villa suffered yet another Premier League defeat.

The Villans lost 1-0 against West Ham on Sunday (28 August) at Villa Park, where a second half from Pablo Fornals made the difference between the two sides.

The home side looked brilliant in the first half, but they ran out of ideas in the second.

Sutton wrote on Twitter: “Dean Smith must be thinking he was hard done by bearing in mind where Villa are at right now since Steven Gerrard took over.”

Worrying

Villa have now lost three games out of four in the Premier League and Steven Gerrard is under loads of pressure.

Philippe Coutinho appeared to have picked up an injury as well, as he was taken off during the game.

To be fair, Villa made an encouraging start, with Coutinho key behind almost every attacking move.

West Ham defended deep and they allowed Villa to dictate. However, both sides struggled to create enough clear-cut chances.

In the second half, it was the opposite story. Villa completely lost shape and composure and they could have conceded more goals, had the Hammers been more clinical.

The introduction of Jacob Ramsey and Emi Buendia added spark to their attacking play, but they had to remain content with efforts from distance.

This is not the type of performance fans want to see from Villa at home. The spirit and the fight in the team was missing, and Gerrard needs to do something to get the team to win games again.

They face Arsenal and Manchester City in their next two games, and they need to regroup quickly and focus on getting positive results from those matches.

In other Aston Villa news, the club are scouting in Portugal and Spain for a new defender according to a report
