Aston Villa agree fee to sell Anwar El Ghazi to PSV – Dutch journalist

Aston Villa are close to finalising the exit of Anwar El Ghazi by reportedly agreeing a fee with PSV, according to De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij.

El Ghazi has been on the periphery of the Villa team ever since returning from a disappointing loan spell at Everton at the end of last season.

However, Verweij has now revealed via his personal Twitter account on Sunday (28 August) that the 27-year-old forward is now close to completing a move to the Eredivisie ending his four-year spell in England.

El Ghazi to PSV?

El Ghazi’s exit will not come as a surprise as he has been on the outskirts of the Aston Villa team, seemingly ever since Steven Gerrard arrived at the club in 2021.

The Dutch winger joined the club in 2018 initially on a loan deal from Lille, and that move was made permanent the following summer after an impressive season.

He went on to make 119 appearances for the Villans, scoring 26 goals and providing 16 assists during his four-year stint with the club.

During his four-year stay the club, he established himself as a dangerous winger capable of putting the ball in the back of the net at any time.

His best season for the club was undisputedly the 2020/21 season where he notched 10 Premier League goals for the club in 28 games.

However, he only made two appearances on loan at Everton at the end of last season and has yet make an appearance for the Villans this season.

Now seems like the right time for player and club to part ways and it opens the door for a return to the league where he started his career.

In other Aston Villa news, Alan Hutton believes Ismaila Sarr would have been a good signing for the club.
