Get it done

Bolstering the defence has become a priority for Villa after the injury to Diego Carlos.

The injury to Carlos has come as a big blow for Villa, as he is set to be out for a long spell on the sidelines.

Steven Gerrard is looking to sign someone who has got experience of playing in the Premier League, and the move for Bednarek makes sense.

West Ham were also in the hunt. However, after the Hammers signed Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain, the path became clear for Villa to strike a deal for the 26-year-old.

At the moment, it’s not clear what the type of deal would be. The Saints value Bednarek at £15m, so if they send him out on loan, they would demand a substantial loan fee.

Alternatively, Villa can sign him permanently.

This has been a brilliant summer for Villa where they completed the signing of Philippe Coutinho on a permanent deal.

They also added Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer after his contract with Marseille had expired. Likewise, Carlos joined on a big-money deal from Sevilla.

Villa have made a stuttering start to the season, winning one of their opening three games, but losing the other two. Steven Gerrard will demand more consistency from his side.

In other Aston Villa news, Bracey would love to see the Villans mount a cup run this year after they overcame Bolton in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
