Alan Hutton: Aston Villa made right call for everyone to loan Bertrand Traore
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Aston Villa recently got one of their fringe players off the wage bill by allowing Bertran Traore to join Istanbul Basaksehir on loan.
The 26-year-old was a rare feature of the Villans side last season and particularly while Steven Gerrard was in charge and the former England captain has decided to move him on this summer.
Traore, a fully-fledged international for Burkina Faso, had become a victim of the arrival of Philippe Coutinho and Leon Bailey and with game time critical at this stage in his career, a move was thought best for him and the club.
Former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton is in the same camp as he believes that Traore was never going to break into the starting XI at Villa Park if he stayed.
“Definitely (the right decision). I don’t see if he stayed how he was going to push into that first 11,” Hutton told Villa News. “He’s completely fallen down the pecking order.
“Last season, we saw flashes of what he is capable of but he didn’t do it consistently enough for me and I think Leon Bailey has come in and hit the ground running and he’ll never push him out of the team.

“You’ve also got (Ollie) Watkins and (Danny) Ings; Emi Buendia and Philippe Coutinho so there was no way, in my opinion, that he was going to get in there.
“So for the club and for himself, it is definitely the right move to go away somewhere else and get the football he needs.”
No replacement has been signed yet but there is still just under a week until the transfer window closes at 11pm on 1 September.
In other Aston Villa news, Hutton is delighted to see his former side take the Carabao Cup seriously after a big 4-1 win away at Bolton Wanderers in midweek.
