Aston Villa could let Cameron Archer leave on loan – The Athletic

Aston Villa could reportedly consider letting striker Cameron Archer leave on loan this summer if they bring in another player in the same position.

According to the Athletic, the 20-year-old may not even feature in the Carabao Cup game against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday (August 23).

It’s understood that the majority of Championship clubs have shown an interest in securing the player’s services on loan this summer.

Aston Villa

Let him go

It makes no sense for Archer to play a handful of senior games at Villa this season when he can get regular game time in the Championship.

If he’s leading the line for one of the division’s top clubs, not only will he play with a better brand of player, he will also be challenging for the title.

Archer can even play a pivotal role in guiding a team to promotion and the experience he will get from the run will be priceless.

From the looks of it, Steven Gerrard also seems open to letting go of the player.

When asked about the Englishman’s involvement in the cup, “There’s a chance he will be involved but also a chance that he won’t be involved at all.

“I’m talking really closely with him at the moment about certain situations. We’ll do the right thing for Cameron in the short term.

Watford are among the clubs we expect to fight for the title and they have now shown an interest in signing the England under-21 international again.

Hopefully, Villa can sort out a new striker soon so that they can make a final decision on Archer’s future and move on as there are plenty of things left to sort out.

In other Aston Villa news, manager Steven Gerrard is very keen to bring Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to the club.
