Ismaila Sarr undergoing Aston Villa medical ahead of £25m transfer from Watford – John Percy

Ismaila Sarr is undergoing an Aston Villa medical ahead of a £25m move from Watford on Sunday night, according to John Percy.

The Senegal winger started the season in good form with the Hornets in the Championship and attracted attention from several Premier League clubs including Crystal Palace and Leeds.

But the Villans have now agreed a £25m deal plus an added £2m in bonuses to bring the forward in and bolster their attack options after a lacklustre start to the season.

Aston Villa

Steven Gerrard’s side have lost two of their three opening games after suffering defeat to Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, with a hard-fought win over Everton in between.

Villa’s spending will go above £70m once the deal is completed, and he could make his debut in the Carabao Cup game against Bolton on Tuesday or West Ham on Saturday.

Great business

Villa have lacked a spark in the attacking department so far this season, which led to Philippe Coutinho getting dropped at the weekend.

Leon Bailey has had moments, as has Emiliano Buendia and Bertrand Traore is the forgotten man and looks likely to leave for Turkey, so reinforcements are certainly needed at the moment.

With Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins vying for the striker position, Sarr’s ability to play across the front line will be a big help for Gerrard when he wants to freshen things up and bring something new to the side.

Sarr is a goal threat, with great pace, skill and creativity and addresses a key area of the squad that needed to be strengthened before the window closes next week.

Villa are also hopeful of bringing in another defender after the season-ending injury that Diego Carlos picked up, and getting that done before the window shuts is also a must.
