Aston Villa make approach to sign Southampton defender Jan Bednarek
Aston Villa have made an approach to sign Southampton defender Jan Bednarek in recent days, according to The Athletic.
The online outlet has reported on its website that the Villans have made their move to replace Diego Carlos as he starts his long-term absence through injury.
There is said to be an acceptance at St Mary’s that their squad needs trimming, which could open the door for a move to Villa Park before the window slams shut.

Bednarek has been viewed as someone who is likely to be allowed to move on, so this move could certainly happen with few hitches along the way.
Southampton are said to want to make a profit on the £4million they spent to sign the Polish international back in 2017 from Lech Poznan.
Aston Villa are in no rush and want to make the right signing, with this approach looking as though they may have found their man – if the price is right.

Back to Reality.
Carlos was the big-name arrival of the summer that was made to transform the heart of the defence, and everyone was beyond excited to see his impact.
The Brazilian did impress, but now he is out for months, we are back to square one.
Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konza will likely partner each other at the back against Crystal Palace, and that partnership is solid enough to cover the gap right now.
Bednarek coming in will provide much better cover, with Calum Chambers also available and Kortney Hause expected to move on with an exit on the cards.
Carlos will hopefully recover on time and be back before we know it but before that, the defence can’t be allowed to fall back into old mistakes if the club wants to achieve its goals.
With the approach made, an answer will be expected in a matter of days, with a move possible at the start of next week should everything be given the green light.
