View: Emi Buendia is ready to finally deliver at Aston Villa in his second season

Aston Villa midfielder Emiliano Buendia has started his second season at Villa Park, and will be hoping it is more successful than his first.

The 25-year-old joined the club in the summer of 2021 in a £33m deal, however, his debut season was far from a success.

However, after a bright start to this season, the Argentine is ready to finally deliver on his potential and this sentiment was echoed by the Athletic’s Greg Evans. [The Athletic]

Evans said: “Undoubtedly there’s magic in his feet and we’ve seen flashes of his brilliance.

“He was quiet at the back end of last season, scoring just once in 11 games.

“Buendia is now fully fit and ready, but that hasn’t always been the case.”

Second-time lucky for Emi?

The 25-year-old had a stint in the Real Madrid youth team, but it was at Getafe where he excelled and broke into the first team at the age of 18.

After scoring three goals and providing one assist for the Spanish club, he moved to Norwich, and this is where his stock rose significantly.

At Carrow Road, Buendia established himself as a two-footed creative force, with neat dribbling ability, fantastic ball control, and an eye for a pass.

The 25-year-old was integral for Norwich in the 2020-21 season in the Championship, scoring 15 goals and providing 17 assists in 41 appearances.

31 goal contributions in 41 games, a goal or assist every 1.3 games, is an absolutely phenomenal return and this convinced the Villans to fork out over £30m for the playmaker last summer.

He is yet to bring that scintillating form to Villa Park as of yet, but if his performance against Everton was anything to go by, better times may be around the corner for Buendia.
