Aston Villa to still allow Kortney Hause to join Watford despite Diego Carlos injury – report
Aston Villa are set to allow Kortney Hause to join Watford despite Diego Carlos’ serious injury ruling him out for the majority of the season, according to The Athletic.
The Brazilian defender has been ruled out for between seven and nine months after rupturing his achilles in the closing minutes of the 2-1 win over Everton at the weekend.
The club are now likely to dip back into the transfer market to replace him for the coming season, and that means Hause’ protracted move to Watford should still be sanctioned.

The Championship club are in talks over a loan move for Hause with the option to buy him next summer, and there were some concerns that Aston Villa could pull the plug after being left with just three central defenders without him and Carlos.
But according to The Athletic, it’s understood that is “unlikely” to happen and a deal is expected to happen before the deadline in two weeks.
Interesting
Hause is clearly not in Steven Gerrard’s plans for this season and a loan move to Watford would make a lot of sense, but it also shows something else is afoot.
The club would surely not leave themselves short in a key position if they weren’t confident of bringing someone else in before the end of the window, especially considering he worked hard to strengthen it immediately when the window opened.

But if Gerrard doesn’t believe in the player being good enough to help in the first-team picture, then it makes plenty of sense to allow him to leave regardless of the situation at Aston Villa currently.
A loan move in the Championship will help the player to get back up to his best and secure a move away elsewhere permanently, while Villa can strengthen the position temporarily while Carlos gets fit and healthy once again ahead of the 2022/23 season.
