Ty Bracey Exclusive: Aston Villa need one more signing to cap off the window

We’re delighted to welcome Villa View host Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Aston Villa have done some impressive work in the transfer market this summer but Ty Bracey believes they need one more to be done this window.

The opening-weekend loss to Bournemouth put a dampener on proceedings when the presence of Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara in the line-up alongside Philippe Coutinho as a permanent member of the squad had raised anticipation about what the side could achieve.

Bracey believes the result could send manager Steven Gerrard back into the market before the close of the transfer window but feels that it might be impossible to bring another one in unless some of the peripheral players leave.

He exclusively told Villa News where he thinks there is one more needed, saying: “Yeah I do. I think we definitely need an eight [in midfield]. I think we’re okay with what we’ve got in attacking options.

“If we include [Emi] Buendia, Coutinho, [Leon] Bailey, [Danny] Ings, [Ollie] Watkins, [Cameron] Archer. There’s six players of great creativity, and all have a goal in them.

“But I think we may need to do one more in the middle of the field. But I think that all depends on outgoings. Our squad is becoming bloated with people who just aren’t going to feature, like Anwar El Ghazi and Bertrand Traore, they’re people who are probably going to end up leaving.

“So we need to get rid of a little bit of the bloat in the squad, and get rid of the dead wood that just isn’t going to play.

“The thing is we haven’t got that long left of the window, there’s only like three weeks. We did our business early and I assume that we either did that business because a, they thought we were ready, that was who we were going to go with, or b, it all depended on outgoings.

“If nobody’s interested in the players you’ve got in the squad then it’s one of those things where you have to wait for their contracts to run down.

“I’ve heard absolutely no rumours. Villa are very quiet about their business. It would be really nice and refreshing if we do make a signing and the first time we hear about it is when we announce it as a football club.

“I enjoy that excitement of like with Danny Ings. That would be crazy if that would happen. If we’re going to get our business done I think we need to get it done soon, definitely.”

English clubs are especially likely to have players they can’t shift these days with the wages that tend to be on offer in the Premier League when other leagues are struggling financially.

Unless the odd men out are prepared to take a wage cut for regular football or the Villans will cover a proportion for a loan deal there is little incentive for anyone but the club to move them on.

Considering where the Lions were only a few seasons ago many fans will be delighted with the transfer window this year, but in an ideal world it could be incomplete still and a final piece of the puzzle will still be added.

In other Aston Villa news, the club have issued £30million’s worth of new shares.
