
Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz set to sign new contract – report
Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is set to sign a new contract with the club, according to the Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel.
Luiz has entered the final 12 months of this deal and had become the subject of transfer interest with the likes of AC Milan interested in the combative midfielder.
However, he has now put the transfer speculation to rest and is set to sign a new three-year deal with the Villans. [Daily Mail]
Mokbel said: “Douglas Luiz is set to sign a three-year extension to his contract at Aston Villa.
“Villa risked losing him for nothing when his deal expires at the end of the season.
“The Brazilian has become one of Steven Gerrard’s most important midfielders.”
New deal for Luiz
The new deal for Luiz is great news for Villa fans who were beginning to worry they may lose the midfielder this summer.
Luiz, who started his career at Brazilian club Vasco da Gama joined Aston Villa in 2019 from Premier League champions Manchester City.
He has since become an integral member of their team, establishing himself as a tough tackler, and midfield presence with an eye for a pass.

The former Man City midfielder has now made 112 appearances for the club, helping the club achieve promotion and remain in the Premier League.
He has also become a fully-fledged Brazil international making his debut for his country in 2019 and earning nine caps in the three years since his first game.
Now contracted to the club until at least 2026, he now enters his fourth season with the club and will be hoping it is his most successful one to date.
