Dion Dublin reacts as Aston Villa suffer 2-0 loss v Bournemouth

Aston Villa made a poor start to their 2022-23 Premier League campaign with a 2-0 defeat against newcomers AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday (6 August).

Dion Dublin wasn’t impressed with the Villa performance, as he felt the team didn’t click today.

Goals from Jefferson Lerma and Kieffer Moore earned all three points for the home side.

“Villa have been out of sorts. They can’t get enough passes together to get comfortable and get themselves good scoring opportunities. They’ve got some good players but it just hasn’t clicked today. Bournemouth have been better,” said Dublin on Football Focus, as shared by BBC Sport.

Poor start

The Cherries got off to a flyer when Marcus Tavernier’s corner was headed down by Lloyd Kelly and then Lerma scored.

Villa completely looked out of sorts and they could have conceded another goal before the break. However, Moore couldn’t finish it off from a brilliant delivery from Adam Smith.

Villa did create some decent chances. Danny Ings had a shot saved by Mark Travers while John McGinn attempted to score from distance.

Boubacar Kamara, the summer signing on a free transfer, attempted a shot from 30 yards out, and narrowly missed the target.

Steven Gerrard will be disappointed with the fact some of the players are still in the pre-season mode, and they just didn’t turn up. One of them is Phillipe Coutinho who was anonymous on the pitch.

They couldn’t create enough clear-cut chances. Despite enjoying 66% of possession, there was very little effort from the visitors to provide entertainment to the fan base.

In other Aston Villa news, manager Steven Gerrard is very keen to bring Liverpool defender Joe Gomez to the club.
