Aston Villa more likely to sign Ross Barkley than Everton this summer – report

Aston Villa are more likely to land Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley this summer than Everton, according to the Daily Mail.

The England international has been linked heavily with a move away from Stamford Bridge to get more game time, as he enters the final year of his contract in London.

However, as per the latest report, the Toffees are more focused on bringing Billy Gilmour on loan to Goodison Park this summer and are not pursuing a move for the 28-year-old – potentially leaving the door open for another move to Villa Park.

Key Addition

The addition of Barkley could be a fantastic business by Steven Gerrard. The Villans already have a more than decent midfield depth with players like Philippe Coutinho, Douglas Luiz, and Emi Buendia.

If they get Barkley through the door, he will prove to be an excellent competition or a backup for someone like Coutinho in the advanced midfield position.

Barkley’s career started with a lot of promise at Everton and he was heavily linked with a number of clubs in England.

Before moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2018 for a reported transfer fee of £15.12m, he was heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur but the deal never materialised [Daily Mail].

In his four seasons with Chelsea, Barkley never had the kind of impact expected of him as he played 99 matches across all competitions for the club where he managed to score 12 times and provided 11 assists in the process.
