Jaden Philogene-Bidace signs new Aston Villa contract, joins Cardiff on season-long loan
Aston Villa have confirmed that Jaden Philogene-Bidace has signed a new contract before joining Cardiff City on a season-long loan.
The 20-year-old winger spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Stoke City, where he made ten appearances and scored once.
His previous contract was set to expire in 2023, but the club have moved to tie him down for a longer period before sending him out on loan again to gain vital first-team experience in the Championship.
The length of his new contract isn’t made official in the club statement, but the player will be fighting for his future in the upcoming season.
With so much competition for places in his position, he will need a big season to convince Steven Gerrard that he can have a part to play in his squad going forward.
Great decision
The current set of academy players on the brink of the Aston Villa first-team are the best to have come through in a long time, so the way they’re handled is essential.
Gerrard has already shown that he is more than willing to give young players a chance, handing Jacob Ramsey a regular starting spot in his team while the likes of Cameron Archer, Carney Chukwuemeka and Tim Iroegbunam compete for their place too.

Regular first-team football is key to these players’ development and Gerrard knows that, but more importantly so does Philogene-Bidace. That’s incredibly important an telling of his mindset.
Accepting to go on loan again shows a willingness to improve and develop, but by signing a new deal he is backing himself to return to Villa Park and make a spot for himself in the squad. Now he just has to go out there and deliver for Cardiff City.
