Aston Villa player ratings as they snatch late draw with Manchester United

Aston Villa rounded off their Australia tour with a dramatic last-gasp 2-2 draw with Manchester United in Perth.

It was a difficult first half for Villa, with Steven Gerrard’s side looking slow and lethargic as they conceded twice in the first half.

However, the introduction of Leon Bailey at halftime completely changed the game as Aston Villa came back to snatch a draw.

All in all, it was another ‘game of two halves’ story for Villa as they only performed well for 45 minutes which will leave some concerned.

Emi Martinez – 8

He only played the first half, but he made some big saves to keep Villa in it. His highlight was a fine reaction save to deny Harry Maguire.

Matty Cash – 7

He has rotten luck with the second goal that deflected in off his legs but put in a generally good display.

Diego Carlos – 7

The Brazilian made a mistake in failing to track the run of Luke Shaw for the first goal but was very decent apart from that.

Tyrone Mings – 5

The England international did his chances of keeping his place no favours as he put in a pretty poor performance.

Lucas Digne – 5

It was a rare poor performance from the Frenchman as he failed to offer much going forward and let Sancho run riot on the left.

Jacob Ramsey – 7

He was probably Villa’s brightest spark during the first half. He put in some good runs and looked threatening.

Boubacar Kamara – 6

It was a quieter display from Villa’s newest midfielder than fans are used to, but he did not really put a foot wrong.

John McGinn – 6

The Scotsman put in an anonymous display aside from a few good runs and many misplaced passes.

Philippe Coutinho – 6

He did not get much of the ball while he was on the pitch, but when he did have it he did not do a lot. His only notable contribution was getting booked for dissent.

Danny Ings – 5

He was largely anonymous during his time on the pitch and failed to make any real impression on the game.

Ollie Watkins – 6

Like his strike partner, it was easy to forget that Watkins was on the pitch as he contributed very little.

Robin Olsen – 6

He came on for the second half and made some big saves, not least to deny a Konsa own goal, but his distribution was spotty.

Douglas Luiz – 7

The Brazilian was used as a central midfielder rather than a holder and he looked all the better for it.

Leon Bailey – 9

Bailey made an immediate impact, scoring a pearl of a goal just minutes after coming on, as well as assisting Chambers’ dramatic late equaliser. A brilliant display from the Jamaican star.

Emi Buendia – 6

He came on alongside Bailey but was considerably quieter. It was a decent if unremarkable display from the Argentine.

Calum Chambers – 7

The former Arsenal scored Villa’s leveller with the last kick of the game to get Villa a deserved win.

Kaine Kesler Hayden – 7

It was yet another promising display from the young right-back as he further strengthened his claim to be Villa’s backup right-back.

Ashley Young – 6

He put in a battling display, having a few tangles with United starlet Hannibal, but did little besides that.

Morgan Sanson – 6

A fair few attacks broke down with the Frenchman either mis-controlling the ball or picking the wrong pass. All in all, he should have done better.

Tim Iroegbunam – 7

The young midfielder replaced Kamara on the hour mark and held down the midfield well for the duration of his time on the pitch.

Cameron Archer – 6

He had his chances to score but did help create the space for Chambers to nod home the equaliser.

In other Aston Villa news, Steven Gerrard has confirmed there have been no offers for Douglas Luiz.
