Aston Villa squad to be split in two with preseason training starting today – report
Aston Villa are finally set to return to training today, but the squad will be split in two due for the time being, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Steven Gerrard’s side returns today (4 July) ahead of a packed preseason schedule, starting with their annual friendly against Walsall FC on Saturday 9 July.
The Birmingham Mail have revealed Villa’s plans for their early training, with those who had no international commitments going through a rigorous routine this week.

However, Villa’s international stars will not train in England and will instead be jetting out to Australia early ahead of their tour later this month.
Those who are there this week will be going through double sessions, going through tests first before a training session later in the day.

Who is back?
The report names the players who are back in this week and there are certainly some interesting names among them.
French midfielder Morgan Sanson is named as one coming back today, despite being linked with an exit.
He has been linked with a move to Galatasaray by the Express & Star and clearly does not feature in Gerrard’s plans for next season.
Sanson’s compatriot Frederic Guilbert is also due back in after spending the last 18 months on loan back in his homeland with Strasbourg.
Guilbert is another man who will surely be moved on this summer after not making a league appearance for the club since 2020.
However, there is no word on Ashley Young with fans still being left in the dark regarding his future at the club.
His Villa contract officially expired last week, but there has been radio silence from both player and club on if he has signed a new contract or not.
Villa fans will also be hoping to see a glimpse of the new kit this week, but there is no word on when to expect it.
This season is going to be incredibly important for Villa after their recent high-profile signings and it all starts today.
In other Aston Villa news, Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo could be set for a move to the club later this summer.
