View: The Aston Villa stars who should stay and go this summer

Aston Villa have turned their attention to departures after signing four players before the transfer window opened.

Matt Targett has been sold to Newcastle while Mahmoud Trezeguet will imminently be joining him out the door as he nears a move to Trabzonspor.

However, there is still a lot of deadwood that Villa need to move on this summer to make way for new signings.

Villa are expected to move a lot of their fringe players on this summer, with The Athletic detailing who is likely to stay and go back in June.

This piece will mainly be assessing rumoured departures at Villa and whether or not they should stay or go, rather than if they will.

Stick or twist

One man who is rightly heading out is Morgan Sanson, with the Frenchman attracting interest from Galatasaray according to the Express & Star.

Sanson has had a torrid time at Villa since joining from Marseille in 2021 and it is best for both parties if he leaves.

However, one midfielder with rumoured interest in him that Villa should do everything to keep is John McGinn.

The Mirror credited Tottenham with an interest in the Scottish star back in June, but he is crucial to the way Villa play and should be kept.

Boubacar Kamara’s arrival at Villa Park has crowded Villa’s defensive midfield berth, meaning Tim Iroegbunam should be given the chance to shine on loan.

Danny Ings was briefly linked with moves to Manchester United and Arsenal by The Express, but letting him go would be absurd after his 13 goal involvements last term.

Finally, Cameron Archer has proven himself worthy of being Villa’s backup striker next season and should be given that chance, with Keinan Davis being moved on.

If Villa can trim the squad down and make sensible additions in certain areas, then they could be set for a stellar season next term.

In other Aston Villa news, defender Kortney Hause is facing an injury lay-off following surgery.
