Aston Villa starlet Lamare Bogarde signs new long-term contract

Aston Villa have announced that promising young defender Lamare Bogarde has signed a new long-term contract at the club.

Bogarde, the nephew of former Barcelona and Chelsea defender Winston Bogarde, arrived at Villa from Feyenoord in 2020.

The club confirmed the news via their website on Friday afternoon (1 July) alongside quotes from Academy Manager Mark Harrison.

“We’ve been really pleased with the progress he has made and we see a lot of potential in him for the future.”

Keep an eye on Bogarde for the future

Young defenders can often get overlooked when discussing future talents, but do not make that mistake with Bogarde.

He has excelled in his two years at the club so far, being a central figure in the side that won the FA Youth Cup in 2021.

Bogarde has technically already made his senior debut, though this came as part of a full Under-23 team that took on Liverpool in the FA Cup in January 2021.

Last season saw him put among the senior squad for the first time, being named on the bench for the Carabao Cup fixtures against Barrow and Chelsea under Dean Smith.

He made his first Premier League squad in Villa’s win over Manchester United in September, while also playing every minute of their Papa John’s Trophy run.

His season was curtailed by injury, with manager Steven Gerrard installing fellow teenager Josh Feeney as fourth-choice centre-back towards the end of the campaign.

However, Bogarde is still an immensely talented player that is set for a dazzling future in the senior game.

The Athletic reported back in May that Bogarde will get minutes during preseason, so keep an eye on him this summer.

In other Aston Villa news, former hero Alan Hutton has told the club to sell Morgan Sanson this summer.
